Southampton County Warrant Searches
There is no one county warrant portal. Start with Virginia Online Case Information System (OCIS), then use the General District Court case-information system for eligible lower-court matters. OCIS can search by name, case number, or hearing date. It is a public case index, not a warrant registry, and its disclaimer says the data may be incomplete or out of date.
Use your own name or help a relative with permission. A case number and the right court are the best starting points. If a case result raises concern, ask the clerk whether it shows a current capias, bench-warrant event, or next hearing; consult a Virginia attorney about the case-specific choice.
- Open Virginia OCIS and choose name, case number, or hearing date.
- Select Southampton and the relevant court or division when the search asks for one; try the GDC interface for adult lower-court cases.
- Use a case number or hearing date if known, then compare the case type, charge, court, and docket events.
- Call the Circuit Clerk at 757-653-2200 or GDC/J&DR Clerk at 757-653-2673 to confirm a court entry.
- For sheriff-held process, call 757-653-2100 and ask for Records Management; confirm the authorized next step with the issuing office.
Southampton County Warrant Search Has No Form
The sheriff's public site does not offer an active-warrant search, download list, or dedicated warrant number. Its Administrative Division says Records Management maintains civil and criminal warrants and legal papers. Call the main non-emergency number, 757-653-2100, and ask for the correct records contact. Public walk-in rules and response hours are not posted, so call before traveling.
The official Administrative Division page describes the office role. It is an agency page, not an online status result. A sheriff inquiry may answer a law-enforcement record question, while a clerk confirms what appears in the court file.
What a Warrant Search Asks For
OCIS is the closest public search interface, but each search mode asks for a case identifier rather than promising a warrant result. Name searches need at least two characters in the documented help. Case-number mode requires a court selection. Hearing-date mode finds calendar information. Exact live choices can vary by interface, so check its help page and verify any likely match with the clerk.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | Text | Required for name mode | At least two characters; check spelling and court level. |
| Case number | Text | Required in case mode | Select the court that holds the file. |
| Hearing date | Date or range | Required in date mode | Finds hearing information, not a warrant roster. |
| Court / locality | Selection | Depends on mode | Choose Southampton and the relevant division where offered. |
| Advanced filters | Selection | Optional | Use only as shown in the current official interface. |
The official OCIS search page shows the available name, case-number, and hearing-date controls. The captured image shows search fields only, without a person's submitted information.

Use the case number or selected court to guide a direct clerk question.
Southampton County Warrant Registry Limits
The OCIS landing page links Virginia's public case-information options. A matching result can show the court, case number, party, case type, charge, hearing dates, and docket details. It does not promise an active warrant indicator, execution return, bond conditions, or a real-time law-enforcement status. The sheriff has no public warrant fields to inspect.
Use the Virginia case-information page to choose the official system, then follow the system's own disclaimer. The captured screen below shows public search controls, not a person's result.

A result can be old or incomplete. Ask the court to confirm whether a later event changed the record.
Southampton County Warrant Search Results
Read a case result as a docket summary. It can help you identify the court and the next question to ask, but it is not a warrant document. Southampton does not publish a sample active-warrant record or a local warrant-ID format. The “case number” label below is a field name, not an example number.
| Case number | Case number field Use the displayed identifier when calling the clerk. |
|---|---|
| Charge / case type | Helps identify the case path; the court can explain any current event. |
| Issuing court | Shows which clerk to contact for official confirmation. |
| Hearing date | A calendar entry does not alone state whether process is active. |
| Status / docket | May not include execution or current warrant status. |
Southampton County Warrant Search Gaps
A blank result can have several causes: the wrong court was selected, the name was entered differently, the case is sealed or restricted, or the relevant law-enforcement record is not part of the public case search. J&DR and juvenile records have separate confidentiality limits. No result is not a clean-status certificate.
The official OCIS search help explains name, case-number, and hearing-date modes. The image below is limited to help text and search controls. It does not show personal data.

When a likely case appears, use the court number listed in the official directory and ask whether the file has a later event or restriction.
Southampton County Warrants: Who Holds What
The Circuit Clerk at 757-653-2200 is the route for felony and circuit files, including filed search-warrant and capias records. The GDC/J&DR Clerk at 757-653-2673 handles adult misdemeanor, traffic, town-ordinance, and preliminary-hearing records. The sheriff's Records Management section handles law-enforcement-held warrants and legal papers at 757-653-2100. A public statewide warrant database was not identified.
Virginia OCIS is statewide case information, not a statewide warrant list. For a federal matter, PACER is the official federal docket system, but sealed indictments and other sealed material will not appear. The relevant court, not a general county search, confirms the process.
Southampton County Warrant FOIA Route
If the online case system does not answer a records question, identify the office that holds the record and send a focused Virginia FOIA request. The county administrative contact is Tina Bradshaw at P.O. Box 400, 757-653-3015, or tbradshaw@southamptoncounty.org. County policy gives five working days for an initial response, subject to a lawful extension. Electronic delivery is free; the first ten letter pages are free and additional pages are 25 cents each.
Requests to the Circuit Clerk use that office's separate policy. A request can seek an existing public record, but sealed, juvenile, investigative, and protected material may be withheld or redacted.
Southampton County Warrant Court Files Have Limits
A defined request for an existing record may go to the county FOIA contact or the Circuit Clerk. State the court or agency, record type, date range, case number if known, and whether electronic delivery is preferred. County policy gives a five-working-day response period, with extensions allowed in some cases. A request may be partly released, redacted, denied under a cited exemption, or answered that no record exists.
The courthouse is at 22350 Main Street in Courtland. The Circuit Clerk lists 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; confirm current access with the office before visiting. Online access and in-person access are both subject to sealing, juvenile confidentiality, and investigative-file limits.
Which Warrants Stay Restricted
Virginia FOIA opens existing government records unless an exemption applies. Active investigative files, sealed or expunged matters, juvenile records, confidential sources, safety details, and protected personal information may be withheld or redacted. Search-warrant affidavits can have timing or sealing limits. Ask for a public docket entry or a partial release rather than a new legal conclusion.
Key Rules:
Online case systems can omit sealed or restricted information; an absent result does not establish that no process exists.
Va. Code § 16.1-301 limits access to juvenile law-enforcement files.
Va. Code § 2.2-3706.1 permits withholding or redaction of some investigative files.
